A reserved railway ticket cannot simply be transferred to anyone. Indian Railways says authorised Chief Reservation Supervisors at important stations may permit a name change only in specified circumstances and with the required written request and proof.
If the original passenger cannot travel, contact the reservation office serving the boarding station as early as possible. Carry the ticket or e-ticket printout, photo identification and documents showing why the permitted relationship or category applies. The official rule page includes time limits; a commonly applicable family-transfer request must reach the office at least 24 hours before scheduled departure, but other categories can have different conditions.
Do not assume a change made in an informal message, by an agent or in a passenger profile will alter the reservation chart. Obtain confirmation from the authorised reservation office and recheck the updated passenger name before travel. Ask the office to confirm restrictions for your booking quota and ticket type.
Because implementation depends on the exact case and station authority, confirm the current process directly with the reservation office before relying on the request.
