Restaurant Service Charge: Bill Checklist for Consumers

Restaurant bill pay करने से पहले itemised lines देखें। Food subtotal, taxes और service charge अलग-अलग समझें। Service charge government tax नहीं है। CCPA guidelines, upheld by the Delhi High Court in March 2025, say restaurants should not add it automatically or force a customer to pay it; it is voluntary and at the consumer's discretion.

अगर bill में service charge default जुड़ा हो तो calm तरीके से revised bill मांगें। Menu, bill और payment receipt की photo रखें। Cash tip देना या न देना अलग decision है; “service charge” को GST बताना सही नहीं है। Card payment से पहले final amount terminal पर verify करें।

Removal से इनकार हो तो manager को written complaint दें और evidence सुरक्षित रखें। National Consumer Helpline के portal या 1915 पर pre-litigation grievance दर्ज की जा सकती है। Complaint में date, restaurant, bill number, amount और response लिखें। Staff के साथ confrontation, social-media accusation या personal details publish करने के बजाय documented grievance route इस्तेमाल करें।
