Udyam is the Government of India's online registration system for eligible micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs). The official process is free and paperless. This guide explains what a business should check before applying, how the process works, and how to avoid paid imitation sites.
The official Udyam portal classifies an enterprise using both investment and annual turnover. As displayed on the portal in September 2026, the limits are:
Both conditions matter. These thresholds can change, so check the current classification and applicable rules on the official portal when you apply. Registration is not a substitute for any other licence or tax obligation that applies to your activity.
Visit udyamregistration.gov.in and choose the new registration route if your enterprise has not registered. The portal says registration is based on self-declaration, without uploading documents or proof. Aadhaar is used in the process; PAN and GSTIN requirements depend on the applicable rules, and linked government records supply investment and turnover details. Follow the prompts relevant to your form of enterprise and verify each detail before submission.
One enterprise should file only one Udyam registration. If it has more than one manufacturing or service activity, the official portal says those activities can be listed under the same registration. Businesses with an older Udyog Aadhaar Memorandum should use the migration route indicated by the portal rather than assume their old number is the new registration.
The system issues a permanent registration number and an online certificate with a dynamic QR code. According to the official portal, renewal is not required. Save the certificate securely and use its verification option when sharing it with a bank, buyer or other organisation. Keep business details accurate through the portal's update route if circumstances change.
The ministry says the registration itself is free. Type the official government URL carefully and beware of lookalike sites charging a filing fee. A Udyam certificate records an MSME registration; it does not automatically guarantee a loan, subsidy, tender award or approval under a separate scheme. Read the eligibility rules of any benefit you intend to seek.
