Cotton Import Duty Exemption Extended to 31 December 2026

The Government of India has extended the existing customs duty exemption on cotton imports until 31 December 2026, according to the Ministry of Textiles announcement issued on 31 October.

The ministry cites Department of Revenue Notification No. 35/2026-Customs, dated 30 October 2026. The exemption previously ran until 31 October and has been extended by two months.

What this means for textile businesses

The stated aim is to help domestic textile manufacturers meet raw-material requirements and improve sourcing flexibility. Businesses planning imports should check the original notification and applicable customs conditions before making shipment decisions.

The announcement does not establish an immediate or guaranteed reduction in retail garment prices. Raw-material costs are only one part of manufacturing and retail pricing.
