The Ministry of Tourism launched the National Digital Tourism Stack and Dekho Apna Desh Campaign 2.0 on World Tourism Day, 27 September 2026. The two initiatives have different aims: one is a shared digital infrastructure for tourism services, while the other seeks to spread visitor demand to suitable lesser-known destinations.
According to the ministry, the stack is being developed with the Open Network for Digital Commerce (ONDC) and support from the International Centre for DPI Innovation and Advancement. It aims to help tourism providers make offerings discoverable across participating platforms, supported by verified supplier credentials, search, payments, ratings and grievance redressal.
The launch is a programme milestone, not a claim that every proposed function is already live for travellers. The ministry says implementation will be phased and a pilot is planned for January 2027. Travellers should continue to use current official services, such as the Incredible India portal, and verify tickets, opening hours and entry rules with the relevant operators.
The National Mission for Alternative Destinations is intended to identify tourism-ready places that can complement heavily visited destinations. Its initial focus includes hill and mountain areas, coastal and waterfront destinations, heritage and cultural towns, and regional pilgrimage places. States, Union territories and industry partners are expected to help develop bookable itineraries involving accommodation, transport, meals and local experiences.
The ministry also announced five non-binding, non-financial tourism-promotion MoUs with industry partners at the event. Those partnerships describe collaboration plans; they do not guarantee a specific traveller product or local business opportunity today.
Analysis: Better discovery could help smaller destinations and providers if their information is accurate and local capacity is respected. The pilot and future rollout will show how well the announced tools work in practice. For a trip now, use verified operators and check time-sensitive details directly.
