IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said the government plans to release an AI regulation consultation paper within a month, according to DD India’s 8 October 2026 report.
The proposed paper is expected to cover AI safety, deepfakes, skills and a human-first approach. Vaishnaw raised concerns about increasingly convincing synthetic content and its potential to mislead people.
The minister said regulation would require technical measures alongside legal tools and stakeholder involvement. He stressed the responsibility of industry in addressing cybersecurity, user harms and other safety issues.
The announcement sets out a proposed consultation process. It does not mean a final AI law has been enacted or that every potential requirement is settled. Technology businesses, creators and users should watch for the published paper and its official consultation instructions before drawing conclusions about compliance obligations.
