India–New Zealand FTA Takes Effect With Duty-Free Access for Indian Exports

The India–New Zealand Free Trade Agreement entered into force on Tuesday, 20 October 2026, after the two countries completed their domestic procedures.

According to India’s Ministry of Commerce and Industry, every tariff line covering Indian exports to New Zealand receives zero duty from the first day. The ministry identified textiles and apparel, leather and footwear, gems and jewellery, engineering goods and processed food among the sectors expected to benefit.

The agreement does not make all New Zealand goods duty-free in India. The official release says sensitive Indian products—including dairy, most animal meat, sugar and edible oils—were excluded from tariff concessions. Market access for New Zealand apples, kiwifruit and Manuka honey is structured through tariff-rate quotas, minimum import prices and seasonal windows.

Exporters should check the agreement’s product-specific rule of origin, tariff code and documentation before quoting a duty benefit. A general announcement is not proof that a particular shipment qualifies.
