The Technology Development Board (TDB) has signed an agreement with Agnikul Cosmos to support development of a reusable version of its Agnibaan launch vehicle. The Department of Science and Technology announced the agreement on 25 September 2026 and described support worth ₹200 crore under the Research, Development and Innovation (RDI) Fund.
According to the department, the financial instrument is optionally convertible debentures. The stated development objective is to advance the reusable launch-vehicle technology from Technology Readiness Level 4 or higher toward Level 8. These levels describe the intended progression of engineering validation; they do not mean a fully operational reusable service is available today.
A reusable vehicle would need to demonstrate reliable flight, recovery, inspection and repeat use before claims about routine launches or lower costs can be established. The official release presents those as development ambitions. No customer launch schedule or price has been announced as a result of this agreement.
Reusability is one possible route to using hardware more than once, but it introduces engineering and operations challenges. For a young Indian space company, project finance may support work that requires substantial testing before commercial scale. The amount and terms announced here describe TDB's support mechanism, rather than a completed technology milestone.
Analysis: The strongest measure of progress will be independently observable tests and eventual reliable service, not a funding headline alone. Readers tracking the project should look for subsequent technical milestones from the company and public agencies.

It is a long established fact that a reader will be distracted.
