A larger pack or a louder discount badge does not automatically mean a lower cost for the quantity you receive.
Begin with comparable products and the same unit. For example, a 450-gram pack priced at ₹90 costs ₹20 per 100 grams. A 500-gram pack priced at ₹100 also costs ₹20 per 100 grams. The pack prices differ, but the unit cost in this example is the same.
Compare the final amount you would actually pay, not a discount percentage alone. Check whether the products have the same specification and whether a delivery or handling charge changes the total.
The Department of Consumer Affairs’ material on packaged commodities identifies label information such as quantity, price and consumer-care details as important consumer information. Applicable declarations and exemptions should be read for the particular product rather than assumed identical for every pack.
Keep the bill and readable packaging details if a later query concerns the quantity supplied. A photograph of only the front promotion may leave out the relevant information.
This comparison method does not test the contents or establish that one brand is better. It simply makes the price comparison more meaningful.
