An unavailable online EPF passbook is a reason to investigate the record, not enough evidence on its own to conclude that contributions have disappeared.
EPFO’s member FAQ points users towards an activated UAN and the passbook facility to check their balance. Its guidance also identifies a different arrangement for exempted establishments, where provident-fund records are managed through the employer’s trust.
First, confirm which employer and member ID you are checking. Keep a recent payslip, employment dates and any older PF statement nearby. If your employment history includes more than one establishment, note which record is actually missing.
Ask payroll whether the establishment uses an exempted PF trust. Where that applies, request the statement from the responsible trust or employer channel rather than expecting every entry to appear in the same online passbook.
If the arrangement does not explain the problem, record the error, the date checked and the affected contribution period. Seek clarification through official EPFO or employer channels with those specific details.
Keep passwords and authentication codes private. This checklist does not establish a payment default or prescribe a withdrawal. Its purpose is to identify the correct record before making a complaint.
