A university’s familiar name does not answer every question about an online or distance-learning course. Check the exact programme and the session in which you intend to join.
UGC’s Distance Education Bureau provides recognition information for open and distance learning and online programmes. Its guidance includes year- and session-related information. Use the current official listing relevant to the proposed admission rather than relying on a screenshot from an older academic year.
Record four details: the institution, programme title, delivery mode and admission session. Compare each with the admission offer. If the wording differs, ask the institution to identify the relevant official record in writing before paying.
Keep a copy of the listing and the fee and refund information supplied to you. An institution applying for recognition should not be presented as having already obtained it.
The DEB site also publishes conditions concerning programmes taken during a recognition period. Those conditions should be read in full; a simple logo or promotional phrase cannot replace them.
Professional or regulated courses can raise additional requirements. This checklist does not certify a particular qualification or guarantee eligibility for a job. Its purpose is to verify the course being purchased against the correct official record.
