A credit report is useful for checking the borrowing history recorded against you, not just the headline score.
RBI guidance requires credit information companies to provide access to one free full credit report, including the score, during a January–December year to individuals whose credit history is available with that company. Authentication is required.
Start from the official company website and find its free-report route. Read carefully before selecting an optional paid monitoring plan; a subscription offer and the annual free-report facility are different products.
Once the report is available, check identity details and the listed accounts against your own records. Note an unfamiliar account, a balance you believe is wrong or an incorrect repayment entry with the relevant account reference.
Preserve the report date and a clear description of the discrepancy when approaching the lender or credit information company through its official process. Keep the full report private because it contains personal financial information.
A report correction request does not guarantee a particular score increase or loan approval. Avoid an intermediary promising an assured result in exchange for an advance payment. This article explains a verification facility, rather than recommending a loan or estimating your creditworthiness.
