Mobile number portability lets you seek a change of operator while keeping your number, but a porting request still has eligibility conditions.
TRAI’s FAQ describes a valid Unique Porting Code as essential. Among its conditions, activation in the present operator’s network must be more than 90 days. For postpaid connections, outstanding dues on issued bills must be cleared.
Check the full current list on TRAI’s official page before generating the code. The two conditions above are not the complete eligibility test. Recent account or SIM-related changes can make it particularly important to read the current instructions rather than relying on an old social-media guide.
Plan the switch around your use of the number for important messages and account authentication. Keep the request acknowledgement and confirm how the new operator will communicate the changeover.
Read the validity information provided with the code. Do not assume that every location or request has an identical validity window.
Porting also does not establish that the new operator will provide better indoor coverage at your exact address. Assess the plan and practical service requirements before committing. This guide does not promise a fixed completion time or recommend a particular network.
